I’m not gonna lie… I read more of the hand and wrist exposures article, and I feel like I have nothing to contribute that would be better than Hoppenfeld’s.
So instead, I’ve compiled a list of *some* of the ortho podcasts out there.
One of my gripes is that when you search “ortho” or “orthopedic surgery” in Spotify/Podcasts/whatever, not all of them show up in the search results. It requires some digging and word-of-mouth to find them.
What I learned today
That being said, I haven’t listened to all of these. I would like to come back and write detailed reviews of my favorites at some point in the future. For now, I’ll break them down by category:
knowledge-based (e.g. straight FACTS) vs. culture-based (e.g. conversations about ortho)
targeted towards med student vs. resident audience
Knowledge-based
Med students
The Orthobullets Podcast — pretty dry; someone will literally read the Orthobullets articles (and questions) to you if that’s your jam
Nailed It Ortho — perhaps the most consistent resident-led podcast, providing basic introductions to topics and a conversational format
The WashU OrthoPod — it is what it sounds like
Med students & residents
Mayo Clinic Orthopedic Surgery — crosses categories between knowledge- and culture-based episodes, with topics of interest to residents as well as med students
Residents
JAAOS Unplugged — maybe med students would be interested too, but I think you get more out of it as a resident. A chief resident interviews an author from the latest edition of JAAOS and summarizes a few additional articles.
The OTA Podcast — currently doing a board exam prep series
OrthoJOE — from Mohit Bhandari (OrthoEvidence) and Marc Swiontkowski (JBJS Editor-in-Chief), this covers the hot goss in ortho research
American Journal of Sports Medicine — yes that’s the name of this podcast, creative I know
Arthroscopy Podcast — from the journal Arthroscopy, not just the general word “arthroscopy,” with interviews conducted by AANA members
The Upper Hand (Chuck & Chris talk hand surgery) — I’ve heard this is the best ortho podcast but haven’t had a chance to listen yet. I’m very busy.
AAHKS Amplified — if you like hips and knees, both lefts and rights
Peds Ortho Podcast — brought to you by POSNA
AOFAS Resident Lecture Podcast Series — pretty interesting, if you’re into feet
Foot & Ankle International — the journal of AOFAS; research-focused
FAO Podcast Series — I feel obligated to tell you that there are 3 different podcasts from AOFAS (why?)
American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Podcast — reading the titles of these episodes put me to sleep
Culture-based
Getting to Know Ortho — shout-out to one of the incoming interns to my program; this is an interview-style podcast with some great conversations
White Coat Coaching — aimed mostly at med students; interviews with leaders in ortho as well as trainees
She Can Fix It — women in ortho!!!!
RJOS Podcast — more women in ortho!!
Dubs in Scrubs — still more women in ortho
The Ortho Talk Podcast — finally a W for the boys; a mix of student/resident topics
The Ortho Show — haven’t listened to this one, the tagline is “Advancing patient care through the sharing of ideas and information” and it has a lot of episodes
I left some of the device- and industry-related podcasts off the list because no.
What are your favorite podcasts? Did I miss any? THE READERS NEED TO KNOW.
K thanks bye.

Casting: the junior Ortho pod is great for med students and misc.
